From the cradle of civilization, man has learned several ways of handling knowledge or information to ensure efficient communication, ranging from how to create/generate (encode), store (in a style), transfer, how to make meaning out of a piece of information (decode) and the like.
The evolution of the internet served as a great hallmark for man in terms of handling information. Several contents in whatever style could be published on the internet, however, it became necessary for publishers or creators to publish contents in a style that suited the preference and compatibility of of their audience and their devices in order to ensure proper decoding. This led to the birth of transcoding - the conversion of files (images, documents, audio, video etc) to a different format in order to meet the preference of audience/viewers and the compatibility of their devices.
The transcoding industry has set a remarkable pace of growth with the emergence of cloud technology and is estimated that by 2019, the transcoding industry will grow by 15% CAGR worldwide. Large companies spend sums of money on terabytes of media file conversion, most especially with the high cost that comes with cloud transcoding. This stands as a bane of small scale companies and startups.

Amidst these struggles and challenges being encountered by many companies and startups, Transcodium appeared as an "Angel of Aid". Transcodium aims to provide the first peer-to-peer Blockchain based and decentralized media transcoding, editing and distribution platform with
high quality and reliable computational power at a very affordable price. With this, there will be the creation of a global market for participants who will be willing to render service by renting their idle machines to be used as worker - devices for transcoding.
Transcodium will provide APIs, Console, and GUI applications for consumers to enable them with a smooth and fast transcoding process. The initiator known as the customer will be provided with an estimated cost which will be debited from the wallet once approved.
Transcodium wishes to make any device a worker. However, not all devices can be master nodes. Becoming a master node will depend on the speed of the processing power and the strength of the internet connection - faster and stronger ones indeed. Master nodes has the opportunity to be rewarded 20% of the transcoding cost whereas 80% will be distributed across the workers.

This image explains explicitly the operations and how the master node and the workers interact on the Transcodium network.

Several master nodes may work on the same request for the sake of data loss. Master nodes have another opportunity to earn from the distribution of the final output to multiple social media or storage platforms which the initiator (customer) will be charged for. This makes master nodes very essential to own.

Amidst the several challenges existing within other transcoding platforms, Transcodium dares to stand out by conducting a thorough survey and identifying the major problems. The problems identified were;

  • Existing cloud transcoding platforms are too expensive and this wards off those who need their services most especially startups.
  • Long waiting time for a file to be processed due to limited hardware.
  • Centralization of the platforms may lead to failure of the whole transcoding process thereby wasting time, money, and other resources. This may result from the outage of servers.
  • Most transcoding platforms are limited to media file formats neglecting others like document files.
After identifying the problems, Transcodium came up with some proposed solutions:
  • Transcodium employs the Blockchain and decentralization technology model and this ensures the provision of a cheaper and reliable alternative to cloud transcoding.
  • With the issue of long processing time, the implementation of several workers  will ensure an unlimited processing power thereby ensuring a faster processing speed.
  • Several nodes and workers will work on a single transcoding request thereby curtailing the issue of server outage.
  • Transcodium will include the conversion of images and documents files aside the routine conversion  of audio and video files.

Crowd Funding
Through fund raising, Transcodium will be able to develop, make payment of salaries and other expenses that might be encountered. Payments to receive Transcodium tokens (TNS) will be in Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin during the crowd sales.

The pre-sale starts on 7th January, 2018 and will end on 28th February, 2018 and during this time, investors will be given 30% discount for the first 5,710,000 tokens that will be sold. The tokens that will not be sold during the pre-sale period will be moved to the main ICO sales with investors enjoying the same bonus or discount terms.
In the end, any unsold TNS token will be burnt thereby limiting the token supply. One extraordina feature during the sales period is that participants or investors will be refunded if the soft cap is not reached . Also, all operations or transactions will be secured using the smart contract model.

Life is full of decision and we are the reflection of our own architectural works. Transcodium is open to all and empowers everyone to be a beneficiary of the transcoding process. The opportunity is right here with you. Be the earliest or part of the early birds to catch the pre-sale and ICO sales bonuses and soar higher with this project.
